TOE DEFORMITIES

Toe problems often occur at the same time as hallux valgus but may occur independently. Deformities may cause pain at the tip of the toe or where a joint sticks up and is prominent in footwear. These include mallet, hammer and claw deformities.

These toe problems may need correcting surgically and can be done at the same time as surgery for bunions and hallux valgus. This may be performed closed or require an operation on one or more of the joints and tendons of the toes.

A wire is used to stabilise the toe and sticks out from the end of the toe for about 4 weeks.
